Clarisonic Mia vs. Classic

The Clarisonic Mia and the Classic are just two of five models of skin cleansing brushes manufactured under the Clarisonic brand of skin care products. The other three include the Clarisonic Mia 2, Plus and Pro. Out of all five, though, the Mia and the Classic are the most popular with Clarisonic Skincare enthusiasts everywhere.

My very first affairs with the unique Clarisonic skin cleansing technologies were with the Mia. I used it for eight months before I decided to give the Classic a try and ordered it. However, I soon learned that that purchase was really unnecessary and had to return it.

What I quickly found out is that, while they differ in certain aspects, these two brushes are actually way more similar than they are different. And as you too are about to see— and perhaps agree— with the exception of their price points maybe, all the other differences don’t matter all that much and are only matters of personal preference, and certainly not significant in terms of how effectively they perform deep cleansing on your skin.

More Similar Than Different

The most important similarity between the Clarisonic Mia and the Classic is that they both employ Clarisonic’s unique, patented Sonic Skin Cleansing technology to gently flex the skin to help release dirt and oil from deep within the pores. They both perform equally well in accomplishing what they were designed for: to give you a squeaky-clean soft and fair skin. They both require only a minute per session of cleansing.

The other important similarity is that with both models, depending on what colour you order, you can choose between a Sensitive Brush Head (for sensitive skin) or a Normal Brush Head (for normal skin) to be included as the single brush head that’s shipped with your kit. You also get the option of ordering both brush heads at a discounted price, so that instead of just one, you kit comes with two brush heads.

The Differences

As I said before, I personally found most of these differences to be trivial as far as performance of the brush models is concerned. And while they may appear significantly greater in number than the similarities, they really are minute differences in terms of substance.

Difference in Size: The Clarisonic Mia is slightly smaller and weighs less than the Classic. At about 6 inches in length and 12 oz in weight, the Mia is slightly handier and makes it a much more convenient brush for people who are usually on-the-go than the 9-inch, 30-oz Clarisonic Classic.

Difference in Speed Options: To serve different customer personal preferences, the Clarisonic brushes can be operated in either one of two speeds— low speed and normal speed. Some brushes, like the Classic, give you the option to switch between these two speeds, where as the Mia comes in a single fixed speed: the normal speed.

These different speeds will not determine the efficacy of the cleansing process in any way; only that, just like kissing, some people like to do it slowly, whereas others prefer it faster— but the act itself is still kissing! I for one never even noticed what speed my Classic was on most of the time; I just found myself already in the middle of it and didn’t care much how fast it was going. It simply didn’t matter.

Difference in Price: When it comes to the differences between these two brushes, this is usually the most substantial for most shoppers of the Mia and Classic. In all stores selling these, the Classic costs a couple of tens of dollars more than the Mia. However, they are all usually available at a discount at Amazon. Difference in Battery Life: Although both last considerably long amounts of time after they are fully charged, the Classic does outlast the Mia. They respectively have battery lives of 30 minutes and 20 minutes. What’s important for me and my Mia is that I can use it 20 times (the equivalent of 10 days, two times a day) before it requires recharging!

One Beeps and the Other Doesn’t: As the user manual that comes with your kit will instruct, the brushes are to be used in only one minute: 20 seconds spent on your forehead, another 20 seconds on your nose and chin, 10 on your left cheek and 10 on your right cheek (of course it doesn’t matter which cheek starts!!!).

The Classic makes this process a whole lot more convenient. With its built-in beep mechanism that serves to indicate when the time is up for one “skin zone” and on for the next zone, it makes it easier for you to shift from one skin area to the next by following the beeps.

The Mia, on the other hand, just runs straight for 1 minute without beeping or stopping. But if you have a wrist watch or a clock around, these steps are very simple to time.

As you can see, the Clarisonic Mia and Classic are really more alike than different. Which one of the two you end up buying is a matter of preference (and budget, of course) than how effective it’s going to be in doing its job of giving you the fairest skin you can have.
